Entry Requirements

  • SQA Highers: ABBB by end of S5 or ABBBB/AABB from S4–S6, to include Mathematics at Grade A and Chemistry; with Standard Grade Physics at Grade 3.
  • A Levels: ABB in one sitting, to include Mathematics and Chemistry; with GCSE Physics or Double Award Science at Grade C.
  • IB: 32 points overall and award of IB Diploma to include Mathematics HL at Grade 5, Chemistry HL at Grade 5, plus one further HL subject at Grade 5. Diploma must include Physics.

  • Process calculations and computer aided flowsheeting;

Year 3: 

  • Chemical thermodynamics;
  • Kinetics and catalysis;
  • Optimisation;
  • Separation processes;
  • Transport phenomena;
  • Heat transfer;
  • Electrical engineering and electronic instrumentation;
  • Further computer applications;
  • Designing processes and bringing together principles already taught, plus control, economics, materials of construction, and management.

Year 4:

  • Design project;
  • Research project;
  • Lecture courses in chemical reaction engineering;
  • Advanced chemical thermodynamics;
  • Fluid mechanics and transport phenomena;
  • Unit operations;
  • Process control;
