Entry Requirements

Degree and/or experience:

  • Normally a good honours degree in a relevant subject or equivalent vocational experience, with some demonstration of the ability to work at masters level.
  • You should also be able to demonstrate an aptitude for research in arts and culture, and are likely to have acquired the following knowledge and training:
    • training in a relevant arts and cultural studies discipline (or disciplines)
    • where appropriate, a working knowledge of the language(s) of the area in question
    • a background in the historical, cultural and institutional context of the area to be studied
    • some evidence of engagement with research through undergraduate modules or a dissertation.

English Language Requirement:

  • IELTS 7.0 overall and 6.5 in writing.

Curriculum

Research Skills and Training
Assessed by a 3,000-word research proposal.

Research Ethics
Assessed by a presentation in front of a mock research ethics committee.

Research Project
Assessed by a 20,000-word (or equivalent for creative-practice-based projects) dissertation and viva voce examination.

Students select two options from a wide range of modules delivered across the College of Arts and Humanities at postgraduate level. These are assessed in a number of ways, for example by oral presentations, essays, annotated bibliographies, research diaries, research presentations, portfolios and critical book reviews.
