Prominent Malaysian artists give hope to author and community advocate Rachel Siew
Kuala Lumpur, 6 November 2017 — The “Paintings on My Mind” Charity Art Exhibition was launched at the GS Artcade Fine Arts Gallery in Petaling Jaya on 4th of November, in collaboration with the Make It Right Movement (MIRM), a CSR arm powered by Brickfields Asia College (BAC), and the Rachel Siew Suet Li Trust Fund (RSTF). Spearheaded by Brian Lariche, Head of Community Development at MIRM, the art exhibition was held from the 2nd to the 5th of November and featured renowned local artists such as Abu Hasan, Nizar Kamal Ariffin, Shima and Harris Ribut, who showcased his exclusive sketches for the very first time.
Being the first of its kind, the art exhibition will be held yearly to raise funds for RSTF, a trust fund established to fund medical treatments for author and community advocate Rachel Siew. Born with a rare degenerative genetic condition called Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS IVA) — also known as Morquio Syndrome — Rachel, 27, requires lifelong treatment in the form of intravenous enzyme replacement therapy, which costs in excess of RM 1.6 million per annum.
Despite her struggles, Rachel continues to find ways to live her dreams and inspire others in need. Besides helping the community through her work at MIRM, she is also the author of Little Book, BIG Secrets, a light-hearted yet touching book that illustrates her wit, determination and resilience in facing life’s challenges. She continues to share her life journey and raise awareness on Morquio Syndrome through this art exhibition.
The featured artists donated 51% from the sales of their respective paintings to RSTF. Over RM 200,000 worth of paintings were sold, and the proceeds will go towards RSTF.
