Entry Requirements
We normally require an honours degree of 2.2 or above, accredited by the Engineering Council, in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths subject.
We can consider applicants who do not meet the normal entry requirement, but who do have relevant qualifications or professional experience. In your application, you should describe in detail your professional experience and qualifications. We may advise such applicants to join the MSc Building Services Engineering (with Preparatory Studies).
English Language Requirement:
- If English is not your first language, you will also need to demonstrate your English Language proficiency. For this course, in the British Council International English Language Test (IELTS) we normally require an overall score of 6.5 and not less than 6.5 in each component.
Curriculum
Over the course of one year, you will study the following compulsory modules:
- Mechanical Services: the specification and performance analysis of complex plant and systems in buildings.
- Construction Procurement: an exploration and evaluation of strategies and methods for procuring construction.
- Low Carbon Building Services: the analysis, evaluation and development of low energy strategies for buildings and their services.
- Building Services Design Project: the development of innovative designs for cooling, ventilating, lighting and heating a given project building.
- Building Engineering Research: researching the concept of 'Resource Efficiency', focussing for example on energy, materials or data.
- Dissertation: an extended piece of research into an emerging building services technology. You will choose your dissertation topic, subject to it lying within the field of Building Services Engineering (and being agreed with the course team).
