Entry Requirements

  • Degree: Minimum 2.2 Honours in a relevant subject with a significant component of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology or Genetics or a related Biological Science.

Note: We would normally expect you to have Grade C in GCSE English and Maths.

English Language Requirements:

  • Overall IELTS 6.0 with a minimum of 6.0 in Writing and Speaking; minimum 5.5 in Reading and Listening (or recognised equivalent).

Curriculum

Your work will be centred on the molecular level. Knowledge in this area is expanding rapidly, leading to a better understanding of how the immune system responds to pathogens.

You will also study how the immune system can be manipulated for therapeutic purposes in procedures such as transplantation and vaccination.

The focus of the course is not simply on acquiring a depth of current knowledge in the subject but also on the methodology used in obtaining that knowledge. We make use of recent research papers to inform class discussion.

In addition to taught modules in the field, you will also be trained in research processes, culminating in an individual research project which will give you the opportunity to demonstrate your individual skills and abilities.

As an MSc student you will need to complete all four taught modules – Biomedical Immunology, Applied Biomedical Immunology, Bioinformatics and Research Skills – plus your research individual project.

The PG Diploma course is the same minus the project. If you complete two modules you will be awarded a PG Certificate.
