Curriculum

All students start the programme with three common semesters, in which a foundation of the spectrum of major activities of the fashion and textiles industry are covered. After the common semesters, they are streamed to one of the 6 specialisms according to individual preference.

For the design specialisms, Fashion & Textile Design and Knitwear Design & Technology, students have to pass a Design & Drawing test and/or an interview for admittance. A student may elect to take the Design & Drawing test and/ or the interview prior to admission to the Scheme or at the beginning of the third semester.

In principle, all students are offered a free choice of specialisms. However, in view of operational considerations, contingency procedures will be followed in the unlikely event that specialisms are oversubscribed. Each specialism has a threshold student number determined by teaching resources of the department. The contingency procedures will be in operation when that threshold is reached. In the contingency procedures, students are required to declare a selection list of specialisms in order of preference. The pool of students in the over-subscribed specialism will be placed in a queue according to their academic performance during the past two semesters. Surplus students with less satisfactory performance at the end of the queue will have to take their second preference of specialism.

In each of the subsequent semesters after admission to a specialism, compulsory Core Subjects pertaining to each specialism are offered, and a wide range of Elective Subjects are included to enrich the students' learning experience. Furthermore, students will undertake mandatory language subjects, General Education Subjects and Work-Integrated Education in fulfillment of the General University Requirements.
