About Savannah College of Art and Design (Hong Kong)
Savannah College of Art and Design, Hong Kong campus was opened in September of 2010. SCAD exists to prepare talented students for professional careers, emphasizing learning through individual attention in a positively oriented university environment. The goal of the university is to nurture and cultivate the unique qualities of each student through an interesting curriculum, in an inspiring environment, under the leadership of involved professors.
Hong Kong gleams in the South China Sea, the heart of a creative revival in the Far East. Students come from all over the world to study in this global city, and SCAD Hong Kong offers the area's largest concentration of art and design degree programs, including courses in advertising, animation, fashion, fashion marketing and management, graphic design, illustration, interactive design and game development, interior design, luxury and fashion management, motion media design, painting, photography, sequential art and visual effects.
SCAD offers bachelor's and master's degrees in Hong Kong. As is customary at U.S. universities, SCAD Hong Kong bachelor's degrees offer four years of instruction, including a core curriculum in fine art foundation studies and general education, before progressing into the major program of study. Master's degrees require advanced knowledge and specialized study that may include field or teaching internships and thesis projects, papers or exhibitions.
Rigorous career preparation takes place in the historic, UNESCO-award-winning former North Kowloon Magistracy Building, a grand courthouse restored and rehabilitated by SCAD-home to SCAD Hong Kong. This newest SCAD location has become a thriving member of the city's academic community, having received approval by the Hong Kong Education Bureau for the registration of its 21 course offerings.
SCAD Hong Kong students regularly collaborate with global brands such as Yves Saint Laurent, Audemars Piguet and Makedo, and they participate in the city's many cultural events, including the Hong Kong Film Festival and the Hong Kong International Art Fair. Students may study at SCAD Hong Kong for the entirety of their degree programs or for only a few quarters, if they wish, to avail themselves of life and learning in Asia's World City.
SCAD's Mission statement is to prepare talented students for professional careers, emphasizing learning through individual attention in a positively oriented university environment. While its vision is to become an institution with distinctive yet complementary locations, will be recognized as the leader in defining art and design education. By employing innovation in all areas, SCAD will provide a superior education through talented and dedicated faculty and staff, leading-edge technology, advanced learning resources and comprehensive support services.

Campus
SCAD Hong Kong is located in Sham Shui Po in the northwestern section of the Kowloon Peninsula. One of the earliest developed districts in Hong Kong, Sham Shui Po is characterized by a mix of residential buildings with government, institutional and community facilities.
The modern, nine-story Dragon Centre shopping mall is located within a few blocks of SCAD Hong Kong and features an indoor roller coaster and skating rink, in addition to hundreds of shops and restaurants. Street markets in the area are known for offering inexpensive electronics and computer equipment, garment construction items, office supplies, flowers and miscellaneous products.
SCAD revitalized the historic North Kowloon Magistracy building, a former courthouse, into the leading site for the study of art and design in Asia, while honoring the structure’s historic and cultural significance.
SCAD Hong Kong and Moot Gallery are in the former North Kowloon Magistracy Building located at 292 Tai Po Road in Sham Shui Po. Modes of transportation to SCAD are as follows:
- MTR: Hong Kong has one of the most efficient and affordable transportation systems in the world. The MTR (Mass Transit Railway) has 10 lines covering all of the major districts in Hong Kong. MTR stops for SCAD facilities include Sham Shui Po and Tsuen Wan.
- Buses, trams, taxis and ferries: An extensive network of buses, mini buses, trams and taxis is available. Regular ferry routes connect Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the outer islands in addition to Macau and mainland China.
- Air: Hong Kong International Airport, located on Lantau Island, is accessible by train, bus and taxi service. It is serviced by most major airlines. The MTR’s high-speed Airport Express is the fastest way to travel to and from the airport.
- Octopus Card: Widely used in Hong Kong, the Octopus Card is a stored-value electronic card accepted for public transportation services and purchases in convenience stores, fast food shops and supermarkets. The Octopus Card is the primary means of payment for travel on the MTR, buses, trams and ferries. To make a purchase, simply place the Octopus Card over a reader and the amount of the purchase is deducted from the stored value.
